Our work in Djibouti to build a new primary and early years school has been our flagship project since the inception of Frontline Children in 2018. Frontline Children have fully funded the design, development and delivery of a new school in the As Eyla region of Djibouti. On the 14th May 2021, we were proud to cut the ribbon and officially open the new school which has been named Garderie Sultan Houmed Louta after the local tribe in the region were instrumental in supporting the project throughout the 3-year development. The school has now officially been handed over to the national minister of education in Djibouti who are providing and funding 4 full-time teachers, a headmaster and administration team. Frontline Children will continue to support the school and the As Eyla region and also be providing regular educational visits for young people and volunteers from the UK.
Deaf Hub Collaboration
In 2021 (Sept – Nov), Frontline Children were honoured to support a U.K. Foreign & Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) request in Djibouti to deliver an educational T3 programme for teachers of students with speech and hearing impairments. It was highlighted that there were no officially qualified and competent teachers in Djibouti that could deliver internationally recognised sign language training. Frontline Children in partnership with Northamptonshire based CIC The Deaf Hub provided 2 instructors for 8 weeks to deliver a level 3 sign language training course. The project was a huge success and received presidential support with an invite to return for continuation training in 2022.
